Concord, NC -Team MKP rolled into Lowe's Motor Speedway for the final event of the 2009 WKA Manufacturer's Cup weekend and what's rumored to be the final event on the kart track at the famed Speedway. Not only was the event a chance for Team MKP to clinch a couple of WKA Manufacturer's Cup Class Championships, but it was also the WKA Grand Nationals and chassis maker, Birel, was leading the points in hopes of winning their second straight Manufacturer's Cup. Bennett would finish Cadet on Sunday 2nd, and also secure podiums in Yamaha Sportsman Heavy & Lite. Team MKP Junior Sportsman hot-shoe, James Bennett of Wisconsin, won the Cadet final on Saturday and thus the team's only "Eagle" (Grand National Trophy) of the weekend. Bennett would also secure his second straight HPV Junior Sportsman title with a 2nd place finish on Sunday. Bennett has a lot of confidence on the strength of his back-to-back titles and Cadet Grand National win as he makes the transition to Junior 2 in 2010. Any spot in the top five would secure the TAG Masters Championship for Team MKP's John Dixon who came into the event on the strength of 3 wins and a Divisional Championship (points transfer). Dixon struggled most of weekend overcoming handling issues, but the reliability of his Rotax powerplant and consistent driving garnered him a 4th place finish in the final and secured the class's first ever Championship trophy. Other notable finishes for the weekend include: Mike Burrell: 7th Tag Masters, 5th Yamaha Masters (finishing 2nd in points for the class) Collin Campbell: 14th HPV Sportsman, 9th Cadet 1, 16th Yamaha Sportsman, 11th Cadet 2 Morgan Fisher: 21st HPV Jr. Lite, 22nd Yamaha Jr. Heavy, 27th HPV Jr. Heavy, 19th Yamaha Jr. Lite Garrett Madison: 17th Cadet 1, 22nd Cadet 2 Morgan Nelson: 19th HPV Jr. Heavy, 25th HPV Jr. Lite Austin Osborne: 11th Cadet 1, 5th Cadet 2 Austin Self: 5th HPV Jr. Heavy, 11th Yamaha Jr. Lite, 13th HPV Junior Lite, 5th Yamaha Jr. Heavy Team MKP will enjoy a very short off-season and the Holidays at home before heading to Daytona International Speedway for the first round of the 2010 WKA Manufacturer's Cup beginning December 27th.
